Between the mismatched purples and the total lack of lighting, it was giving off strong “don’t stay too long” energy. Armed with gallons of paint, a lot of planning, and a dash of cowboy charm, we turned this large office into a space that’s equal parts functional and fabulous.
Paint: The Great Neutralizer
First things first—we had to break up with the purple. Both of them. The walls got a fresh new look with off-white above the chair rail and a rich emerald color below, while the rail itself was painted a crisp white. The result? The room immediately went from zombie apocalypse to western hospitality with about seven coats of paint.

Let There Be Light & Air
This room had a decrepit fan with one dingy light, which is great if you’re a vampire, but not so much if you work from home. We added a sleek ceiling fan and installed four can lights on a dimmer switch. Now we can go from “Zoom meeting mode” to “reading cowboy poetry at dusk” with just a flick of the wrist.

Window Upgrade: Now Featuring Wildlife
We swapped out the old double-hung windows for a large sliding version that lets in way more natural light—and fresh air for the cats, who now spend their afternoons bird-watching like fat, furry retirees. It’s a win-win: better views for us, and endless entertainment for them.

Door Drama
All the office doors got a makeover too. We painted them bright white to match the chair rail, added custom knobs, and swapped out the old hinges for black ones that scream “I have taste” without being too loud about it. It’s the little things, really.
TV, Meet Wall
We mounted the TV next to my desk and ran the electrical behind the wall for that streamlined and clutter-free look. It’s perfect for background noise, quick news checks, or pretending I’m watching a webinar when I’m really just catching up on golf highlights.
Desk Goals
Since I work from home, desk space is sacred. We found a double desk that fits all my monitors, books, office supplies, and existential dread. It’s spacious, sleek, and finally gives me room to spread out without knocking over my coffee cup every five minutes.
Modern Cowboy Vibes
Now for the fun part: the decor. We leaned into a modern cowboy theme—think less saloon, more stylish saddle. We hung old western paintings my grandfather created (he was a huge John Wayne fan), added a refurbished hutch to display our growler collection from different states, and tucked in a few plants for good measure (and out of reach of the cats). To tie it all together, we found some contemporary Tex-Mex art that blends beautifully with the rustic touches. It’s bold, it’s personal, and it’s got just enough yeehaw to keep things interesting.
A Roundup-Worthy Office Makeover
This office went from chaotic to curated with a few upgrades and a whole lot of personality. Whether you’re wrangling spreadsheets or just trying to keep your cats off your keyboard, don’t underestimate the power of good lighting, fresh paint, and a lot of western flair.
