But with a little creativity (and a few trips to the hardware store), we gave this small space a major facelift. Here’s how we turned a sleepy room into a stylish, sporty retreat for my golf-loving husband.

Let There Be (Better) Light

The original lighting situation? Think cave vibes. We installed four can lights in the ceiling and hooked them up to a dimmer switch, giving us full control over the mood—bright and energizing in the morning, soft and cozy at night. It’s like the room finally woke up and had a cup of coffee.

Color Me Impressed

We said goodbye to the dark purple wall color that covered the inside of the house, and welcomed a crisp, bright white. The transformation was instant—clean, modern, and ready to play ball with our decor. Plus, it made the room feel bigger, which is always a win in small spaces.

TV, Meet the Office

Mounting the TV was a game‑changer. Not only did it free up precious surface space, but we also ran the electrical behind the wall for a clean, cable‑free look. We added an LED light strip to the back of the TV, complete with a remote that lets us switch between colors and patterns—perfect for setting the mood. It’s sleek, it’s functional, and it makes game day feel just a little more luxurious.

Closet Chronicles

The closet got its own mini makeover. We painted the interior and the bifold doors, then added custom knobs that matched the home’s overall style. Black hinges replaced the old ones, giving the whole setup a fresh, modern edge. It’s now a closet that says, “I’ve got my life together,” even if it’s just barely true.

We added multi-tiered shelving to not only house my husband’s ever-growing golf wardrobe (seriously, how many polos does one man need?) but also to corral his impressive collection of hats, shoes, and mysteriously multiplying office supplies. It’s functional, organized, and finally working as hard as he claims his 9-iron does.

Closet makeover tips

Fan Upgrade: Now with Flair

We swapped out the old ceiling fan for a new three-speed model that actually moves air—and looks good doing it. Whether it’s a gentle breeze or full-on wind tunnel, this fan delivers. Bonus: it doesn’t sound like a helicopter taking off.

Window Refresh

The old window was replaced with a sleek sliding version that’s easier to open and way more energy-efficient. It also lets in more natural light, which makes the room feel even more inviting. Plus, it’s nice to have a breeze without wrestling with stubborn latches.

Tee Time: The Decor Moment

To pull it all together, we went with a golf-themed decor. From my favorite sign—”Wash Balls Here” (yes, it’s golf-related)—to subtle green accents, the theme adds just the right amount of personality without shouting “country club.”

We found old wooden clubs to hang all of the pin flags Brandon’s collected from courses he’s played across the country—because nothing says “well-traveled” like a wall full of fabric triangles. To top it off, I tracked down some hard-to-find photos of our favorite golfers, plus a few jaw-dropping shots of top-rated greens that make you want to grab a 5-iron and book a tee time.

A Hole-in-One Makeover

This small bedroom went from forgettable to fabulous with a few smart upgrades and a dash of personality. Whether you’re working with tight square footage or just tired of your current setup, don’t underestimate the power of lighting, paint, and a well-placed golf reference. It’s part museum, part man cave, and 100% a hole-in-one in the style department.
